We were awake at sunrise in the Georgia marsh. We were anchored in New Teakettle Creek and had a fairly strong incoming tide to contend with as we retrieved our two anchors.

View from our Anchorage

We motored into Old Teakettle Creek, passed through the Creighton Narrows and the Front River into Sapelo Sound. We had been observing a large amount of dolphin activity and were treated to having a pod of seven dolphins passing by the boat.

The morning had been misty with smoke and fog with visibility in the 1 mile range. It made the whole area somewhat surreal.

We continued on through the South Newport River, Johnson Creek, North Newport River, St. Catherines Sound, Bear River, Florida Passage, Ogeechee River, Hell Gate and up the Vernon River. We encountered fluctuating currents and tidal ranges in excess of 8 feet. The temperatures were in excess of 100F on the heat index with UV in the 11 (extreme) range.

When we turned up the Burnside River and arrived at the Skidaway Bridge and Narrows, we encountered the first signs of civilization in a couple of days.

High Tidal Range Dock Design

We arrived at the Isle of Hope Marina at 13:30 and refuelled and took a dock for the night. There were a number of great looking yachts there including this classic Elco 72 ft wooden yacht.

Chris and I took advantage of the free loaner car at the marina to take a trip to the Piggly Wiggly to do some re-provisioning.
