Offshore Day …..

We were up at sunrise and left Marco River Marina at 07:12 headed for Marathon in the Keys.

Wind were light and the seas were around 1 - 2 ft. It was another sunny day.

The first third was fairly smooth sailing at around 10 kts boat speed. The wind and waves gradually built to around 2 -3 ft and for the last third of the trip we had lots of spray and the windshield wipers going most of the time.

The water throughout is shallow, never deeper than 25 ft with lots of shallower areas but better than the Okeechobee route. You are out of sight of land for about 2/3 of the run and we only saw four other boats, some dolphins and a pair of sea turtles.

The GPS got us to the approach channel to Marathon.

We followed the Moser Channel through the Seven Mile Bridge and out to the Hawk Channel.

The Seven Mile Bridge (new and old spans)

We followed this for about ten miles to Colony Key (just east of Marathon) where we stopped for a dock and fuel at the Key Colony Marina at 18:00.

Don't Cha at Dock in the Conch Republic

We were pushing a bit faster on this leg and our fuel burn was 1.8 gpm.

Today we travelled 101 nautical miles.

After washing down the boat, we went for a quick burger at the local restaurant / bar and called it a night.

Trip totals to date:

227.4 nm
31 h 11m travel time
289 gal(US) fuel
